My idea for this project was based on my own personal experiences of traveling. I appreciate going to different places around the world and like to learn about new cultures. I also enjoy traveling and although I find that sometimes the plane trips can be long and tiring, it is all apart of the journey and I also enjoy looking at scenery.

Places and Spaces
My inspiration emerged from artist Chris Soria that creates artwork through collage and photomontage. I was intrigued by how the images were all constructed into one artwork because there are so many different images of all sizes and colors, it made me wonder how the artist chose to arrange all the images together to create fluidity. The concept of photomontage helped me to create my own version by using various different colors and is also the reason for leaving parts of the picture with no color.

Culture
The idea for my artwork was inspired from the use of popular language such as slang words that are commonly used and created by the younger generation called generation Z. The use of color and the representation of the colors used in my work support my topic and main idea of my work. The background represents a map which acts as a barrier between different cities and places around the world where language is different.

Through my artwork, I intended to represent a young girl going through puberty through the use of specific features such as the eyes and lips show that she has a young face, the small armpit hair under her arms and the use of a training bra. As a teenager going through puberty, I wanted people to remember what going through puberty was like for them when they looked at my artwork. I wanted to remind people that puberty is a different process and experience for everyone and that everyone has their own pace.

The idea behind my artwork is inspired by an artist named Jason Mecier that creates mosaic portraits using all different kinds of material such as pills, candy, trash etc. I was inspired by the use of candy in Mecier’s artwork and wanted to incorporate that into my artwork. Mecier uses different colored candy to determine shadows and hair/skin color, as for my artwork I used lighter colors such as yellow, white and orange to represent skin color and darker colors to define features on the body.
